Strange thing happened today while on Bestbuy trade in value site for iPhone 5S...my phone is in perfect condition (16GB) and no scratches and their website determined that my phone trade in value is $189.00 (LOL) and my friend has a iPhone 5 with 16GB and his was valued at $191.00...go figure!!! Now a year ago Bestbuy gave me $325.00 for my iphone 5 (16GB)...what the hell has changed???

189.00? Does Best Buy really think people will trade in their phones for that? I can have better luck selling my phone online for $300-400. They're just ripping people off.

What ticks me off is that last year I had the Iphone 5 for one whole year and took advantage of the early upgrade for the iphone 5s and it cost me $449.00 and they gave me $325.00 for my iphone 5 and paid $124.00 for the difference. Now Bestbuy is playing the "Crook" game.

I'd put money on Best Buy offering a trade in value "deal" when the new iPhone is announced and a pre-order release date is set.

That said, and no offense to anyone in particular, but you're a fool if you use these trade in deals EVER, not just during higher trade in value times. You can easily sell your device on eBay, Craigslist and other online arenas vs. the hilariously low values you get from these websites. I don't know about you, but if I'm getting a new device and selling my old one to try and knock the cost a bit, throwing away, at times, $100+ to these trade in websites just doesn't seem intelligent to me.

Not only that but it's Best Buy. Do you really expect to get top dollar for your phone there?

Exactly, enough said.

Don't expect top dollar from places that have to resell. It's not like selling it for a person who has to use it. Same way a pawn shop works or gamestop.

I found out the hard way last year that Verizon did not exactly pay top dollar on trade in for my iPhone 4. I wish now I had just kept it as a back up. They only gave me $67 for it. But I was ignorant then about these things. I found out later that others were getting $100 + on trade in and $200+ on eBay. I need a back up phone. So I'll probably keep my 5 when I upgrade to the 6 in February. If I can manage to update my 5 to iOS 8 via iTunes, I may jailbreak it for wifi only use.

I always sell my divices on Craigslist, and have had much success. You just have to be careful and meet in a well lit public place...preferably at a carrier store.

Selling online has always been the better option. I don't think trading in anywhere is a wise idea. It's like trading games into GameStop!

Even trade-ins online are ridiculous.

Selling it is always the smarter route.

I wouldn't bother doing a trade-in. It is a massive ripoff. You'd have netter luck selling it by yourself, and could probably get $450-$500.
