Problems with Message Tones on my iPhone 5c

My text tones aren't working on my iPhone 5c. I've gone to Settings > Sounds > Text Tone....set the tone but STILL doesn't play. Help??

Have you tried rebooting your device?

1. Is the mute switch enabled?
2. Go to Settings->Notification Center and go through each app's settings and make sure they are okay.

I didn't know I HAD a mute switch...lol.....found it and switched it....hope that was it. Thanks for the in-put! I've only had my phone 2 days.
