My contacts have disappeared!

My contacts seem to have disappeared. I signed up for iCloud to backup my phone, performed a backup, and a little later when I went to make a call, I received a message that I had no contacts in my contact list. I didn't do anything to intentionally delete all my contacts, and I was never skaed if I wanted to perform such an action. I'm thinking they're somewhere on my phone, but I can't find them. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Try restoring from iCloud. Did you have them backed up anywhere else prior to this?

Now I feel like a real dummy. I can see how to back up to icloud, but for the life of me, I can't figure out how to restore from icloud.

Restore your phone as new, and when you start it fresh it will prompt you to restore.

Go to settings - iCloud and make sure the contacts part is turned "on"
