Erasing data from iPhone 4 - How long does this take?

I am selling my iPhone 4 and went into settings>general? erase all data...It's been on the apple logo with the little round circle thingy for about 2.5 - 3 hours now...How long does it normally take to erase everything and go back to Factory settings? Is it normal to take this long??

Damn. I'll just let it sit. I have it plugged into the PC just in case for some reason it needs to be.

i would have just "restored as new" in iTunes, no restore from back up

if you don't mind me asking, why are you selling it?

I had mine take over 3 hours to the point where I thought it was stuck - so I simply stopped it and did the "restore as new" ..

For the 3GS and 4, it should be immediate. From the User Guide, p. 204...

This can take up to two hours or more, depending on the model and storage capacity of your iPhone. (On iPhone 3GS or later, the encryption key is removed immediately.)

HOW DID YOU STOP IT?? i tried the power button but it didn't work. i tried plugging it into the computer but the ipod wasn't identified. please help me. thanks.

Try holding home and power down till it reboots or turns off
