finally got a iphone 3gs

i got my iphone 3gs finally but its at version 3.1 so i cannot jailbreak or unlock
i heard that a unlock is unlikely and so is a jailbreak on 3.1
but u think i shoud keep the iphone at 3.1 will it be unlocked or jailbroken soon or u think i should try to return it(which i might not be able to do)
so i think if i return the iphone i dont think ill get one at a lower version so as i have said do u think a jailbreak/unlock is likely to happen and if so when cuz i dont wanna be waiting for too long

You can now jailbreak 3gs on 3.1, however i'm not sure if it is unlockable yet. You can always downgrade your firmware to 3.0 and unlock. Search the forums I know there are threads on it out there on it.

I thought you couldnt downgrade from 3.1 to 3.0.1??

You can't. You can only jailbreak if your 3GS was previously PWNed.
