Hey guys gimme a option whats better for a 13nth year old kid a mac book pro with retina or without it?
I agree that if for school a Windows based laptop as teens can be rough on things and you don't want a $1000.00 plus mac ruined as opposed to a PC laptop for what you can but @ about $400.00 and get a decent one.
Only get windows if you don't mind your teen getting viruses, and you having to remove the virus or pay someone to remove it. Macs are good for teens because of this reason. But I wouldn't go for a retina display model. A lower cost MacBook Air might suit the needs of the teen unless they are gaming or doing some sort of graphic design.
And I would save $1,000 and buy a Windows laptop. Why does a 13 year old need a Mac at all? Most schools are still teaching Windows, since that's what is used in the majority of businesses today.

It won't cost you $1,000 to remove viruses. Not worth the money for a teen.

I got a new Mac my freshmen year of High School as well as my Senior year to go into college with a fresh one. I could not be more grateful that my parents bought me that MacBook, I know how to do so many more things than my friends that use PC's. Plus it got me to be more creative, with my parents pushing me to use iMovie, Garage Band, and keep their photo libraries in iPhoto. Now that I'm a little older, and I know the OS I act as my families tech support, when my grandparents got a Mac Mini, I set it up and showed them the ins and outs, etc. If you were thinking about getting your kid a Macbook, I would say go for it. Just sit them down before and have a talk about it. Tell them this isn't a cheap machine, so you have to take care of it. And its not a basic laptop, so you'll learn how to use it, and it won't just be used for FaceBook.
For a 13 year old? What does your 13 year old need Retina display for? Is your 13 year old taking that Macbook to school? A Mac Mini would be a better and more affordable idea but if you insist on getting your 13 year old a Macbook, go to Mac of All Trades website->Buy and Sell Refurbished and Used Mac Products | mac of all trades <--and buy a used Macbook and save the money.
