Why can't I draw in notes?

I have updated my iPad to iOS 9, and it's an older model (with a 30pin adapter). When I opened up notes for the first time it said the intro stuff, and all that jazz, then I went into the app and I couldn't find any update button. Please help.

Do you have Notes turned on for iCloud? Go to Settings > iCloud > Toggle on Notes. Then go to your mail accounts in Settings and toggle Notes OFF. Then go back to the Notes app and try.
