My wife purchased a new ipad and is now reading my messages from my phone

I have a iphone - wife has an iphone. I have an Ipad Mini, wife has aan old ipad. She purchased a new ipad today and is accessing my text or imessages from her phone.

I have turned off home sharing and imessage and changed my password.

But the damage is done as she was able to read things she shouldn't have.

How could she be able to see and access my text messages?

Welcome to iMore! You're probably sharing the same Apple ID.

You can share the same iTunes ID. But you need to have separate iCloud, iMessage and Facetime ID's. Otherwise you'll run into problems.

She used your iMessage log in.

This is how we do it.

- Shared iTunes login for apps, etc.
- Unique iCloud login for backup, iMessage, Facetime, etc.

Looks like you had shared the iCloud, which will do that. Hopefully you two can get things sorted out.

With the family sharing now, my wife and I each have separate iTunes accounts. We still have access to each other's purchases, but our devices are separate.
