How can I get Handoff working on my Macbook Pro and iMac?

Handoff doesn't work on my macbook pro or iMac.

My macbook pro is a 13 inch early 2011 model with 4 GB memory ad my iMac is a 24 inch early 2009 with 4 GB memory. Is there a way to set up handoff features for them?
