iTunes is automatically starting to check songs that have been unchecked. How can I fix this?

On all the devices that are synced to my MBP - iPhone, iPad, & two iPods - I have always had the "sync only checked songs & videos" option and now with all the updates that Apple has made to iTunes, songs that I did not check are now showing as checked. This is unacceptable and after searching the Web for answers, I am at my wits end. Has anyone else experienced this -- if so, how do you remedy the situation?

To be honest, I haven't noticed. Anyway, hopefully, someone who has and have a remedy for you will respond soon.
