Why will my iPhone 5 screen not turn on?

Recently I bought an iPhone 5 and froze at the start-up screen, so the only option was to let it die. Keep in mind the battery had full life, bout 20 minutes later I observed the screen dim out and fade away as if the screen was off. What is happening?

Could be a had ware issue that needs professional diagnosis and possible service...

Plug into iTunes and restore it from a backup or setup as a new device. No one likes this option but it may be the best one.

How does it not connect to iTunes? Have you tried plugging it in to your computer to iTunes? Can you open the phone?
