my new iphone 6 is not downloading email attachments

when I click on the attachment it just goes back to main screen.

What type of attachment are you attempting to download?

Reboot the phone... Hold the power and home buttons until you see the Apple logo...then release the buttons... If the issue persists, consider restoring the iOS via iTunes.

If you don't have an app installed that's capable of viewing the attachment then you will be unable to view it.
