So just like you can "do not disturb" certain contact message threads is there a way to "do not disturb" there specific contact calls from coming in as well without having to "do not disturb" the whole contact list and choosing your favorites to not "do not disturb"?

Yes, it's called "Block This Caller". It does the same thing as DND.
It's just not as convenient.
