Why is my Home button not working on my iPhone 6?

Home button is not working, although it will read my finger print. I've enabled the touch assist to give me a workaround for now.

Is this just a hardware issue or could something be disabled in software?

I've tried rebooting the phone, compressed air etc.

This seems to be an isolated issue. I would definitely follow the advice above
