How to update ios with faulty phone?

Hi all, I have a iphone 4 32g running ios 5.1.1 jailbreak. Recently the phone would only charge when the power is turned off. If I plug it in in the computer, itunes will not recognize phone. Even computer will not recognize it (no usb detected).

How would I go about upgrading that IOS to the latest (7.1.2)?

Maybe this is a stretch, but why don't you upgrade your phone? You can get a 5s or 5c for $0 on 2 year contracts

Have you tried it on a different computer? My guess is that the drivers in your windows machine( or is it mac) are corrupted. I too had an issue of usb not recognising the phone and after formatting the computer, it worked.

Since your charging works, the problem seems to be with your computer.
