Why can't I get OS X 10.10.1 to just move a file when I drag it into another file?

It copies the file into the folder instead moving it.

What program are you using to manage/move the files? In Finder, if the folder is on the same drive as the original file, it should move the file. If it?s on a different drive, it will copy it.

Holding the ⌘ (command) key while dragging the file will always MOVE the file. Holding down the ⌥ key (option) will always COPY the file.
