Would you recommend an iMac or MacBook Pro for Photoshop CC?

Hello everyone,

I am a semi-professional photographer and have been a MacBook Pro user for many years. I currently have the late 2013 MacBook Pro Retina 15" with max specs and love it.

I am looking to add a desktop for use primarily as a photo editing machine to be used with Photoshop CC and various Nik Software filters. I will also do some Quick Books as well but mostly will be using for photo editing. I tend to edit with large files as some of the images i work on are created by a Nikon 800e with very large files and many of my edits are larger than 1 GB files.

Im wondering if you would recommend an iMac or a Mac Pro for what I'm going to be doing?

Thanks very much for your input and as always, its great to be a part of this forum.

take care,

rick

Re: Desktop for Photoshop CC

An iMac can handle that with no problem. Just get as much RAM as you can afford. The the Mac Pro I think would be overkill and of course you'd still have to buy your monitor. Even your rMBP can handle those tasks fine. You could just hook it up to 1 or 2 external monitors.

Thanks so much for the great input! :)
