apps erased from my macbook

[iMore Question]

My iphone 5 died, and I borrowed a friend's iphone 4. When I hooked up the borrowed phone to my macbook to restore the phone, what happened instead is that all the apps on my macbook disappeared. Backup to icloud did not seem to have happened. I am freaking out. Any suggestions? thank you.
