icloud account?

icloud was set up initially with an email address which has now been discontinued. I am trying to delete the account from my iphone but it will not allow me to as I am unable to turn off find my phone? when I try to turn it off or delete the account it keeps asking for my password for the old email address? I put in the only password that has been used with this address but it keeps saying my password is incorrect.

can anyone help with this, it is so frustrating.

Karen is right so try that and if this fails and I dont think it will, you might have to go as far as setting your phone up as new to get rid of the account.
