I switched from cable to Apple TV to save money. I am very selective in my TV watching. I like PBS, HGTV, Discovery and a few others. So how do I access full programming w/o a cable provider?

Not all channels listed via the TV work without a cable subscription, and there is no bypassing the those restrictions.

Yep. Most require a cable subscription. Some services are starting to offer a stand-alone subscription.

You will need to investigate the specific requirements of each service you wish to access.
