Like the title says... I want to share an Excel file with a friend of mine though OneDrive, so we can work on that file together.
But that friend doesn't have Excel installed on his system.

Will this be possible??

You can share that excel file to anybody you want, even if they don’t have the app installed.
That person then can use any excel file editing app as they wish.

They should be able to open and edit the file via Excel Online in their web browser.

Alternately, you can share it via Google Drive and they can edit it online via Google Docs.

Conceptually this work just like Google sharing and Apple sharing. You need a Live or Microsoft ID the same way you need credentials with Apple or Google. Your Microsoft credentials do not have to be a hotmail or Live email address. Microsoft does have some differences if your Office 365 is a personal or enterprise - work or school - license. If you have a work or school type you can face rights and restrictions from that enterprise and not just Microsoft.
