How did someone get my Whatsapp info?

Whatsapp is spied

Hi all,

Yesterday the guy who gave me his number in a chat sent me messages in Whatsapp. How could he possibly know my number if I haven't given it to him/written to him in whatsapp. Actually, I only looked at his profile photo and clicked the chat section in whatsapp, but I haven't written to him anything at all. I also noticed that I had a message about encryption before he wrote to me. But how could he possibly now my number? Is there any spy software that can tell you which number has looked at your photo or did he receive the same notification on encryption when I clicked on chat section?

Hi, welcome to iMore.

I haven't encountered this issue before and I look up a lot of people whom I don't write. I haven't had anybody writing to me without me starting a conversation with them after looking them up in WhatsApp.
My best guess is you might have given your digits to him after all, maybe unintentionally.
