As I posted in my thread about iOS 12 being released later today, so is Watch 0S5! This will be my first big update since I got my series 3 in April. I'm excited and nervous at the same time. Any guidance would be appreciated!

Make sure your watch is on the charger now. In about 15 minutes the update will be available and you won’t want to miss time charging the watch.

After that it’s really simple. Go to the watch app, search for any updates and perform the update like you would on the iPhone.
Be advised that the watch can take up to 1 hour before you can use it again. Yess, the update process is really slow.

When I checked for an update in the watch app, I got a message saying that I needed to update the software on my iPhone first, before I could update the watch’s software. Ie download & install iOS 12 first, then update the watch to Watch OS 5.

Updating to Watch OS 5 right now (around 765ish gb’s or so), estimated time remaining for it to download has gone from 6 hours, down to 4 hours in the last few moments... Hopefully there’ll be additional bumps in the time remaining.

If you have the original Apple Watch (aka Series 0, aka 1st Generation), you will never see it. watchOS 5 is Series 1, Series 2, Series 3, and Series 4 only.

Yeah, it was quite a long download time on a 500 meg (up and down) fiber connection. I guess since everyone else was downloading it at the same time it was somewhat slow.

Install however was a few eye blinks.
