iPhone ipod landscape

Why does the iPod on the iPhone lose all functionality when in Landscape view? Am I missing some setting or?
I use it on my motorcycle and it is mounted landscape.

I personally wish that 'Cover Flow' could be turned off - I HATE it.

I agreed I freaking HATE coverflow. I hope to god 4.0 makes some more functionality out of the landscape screen.
