Can ringtones work as texts?

I have dl'd some ringtones from the lovely people on these forums and I am wondering is there not a way to make the ringtone into a text as well? I find them under ringtones, but not texts am I missing something, or is they different.

You have to be JB to change the sound for texts. Do a search there is a good write up on changing it.
