Don't forget that despite online predators, there's still less of a chance your children will come to harm online than they will if they go out into the neighborhood to play. The world has become a frightening place - many parents won't allow children to go out and ride bikes today. :(

i'd rather my kids go outside and break a leg then to sit in the house and not live, and playing outside never hurt anyone.

you played and so have the rest of us, and were all fine today, so i hope... its also apart of growing up, learning to ride a bike, football, girls jumping rope. parents today have become so scared to let their kids be kids its shamefull...

so what if your girl/boy breaks and ankle they'll live... he'll my 8yr old just broke his ankle hoping down the steps and all i did was take him right to the er and he went right back to hoping after they put his cast on...

Tell that to the families of children who are kidnapped and murdered because of meeting people off of social networks. Dangers are everywhere of course, but I would rather not have my kids with their heads in a phone and missing the world around them. Children today, and some very young adults are falling into the prey that is technology. It is also detrimental to their health. Sit around and play games all day, not play outside....bad health possibilities.

Back then if you had that phone, you didn't need to tweet. Keeping up with the Jones'? Nah, you were the Jones'.

isn't that included in our data plans?

and i was talking about people constantly letting the world know their every move, i could see its use for school and journalism and thats about it.

personally i don't see the need to do what facebook, myspace, are already doing as well as instant messengers. i just don't understand its point of existence.

OK I don't understand why everyone has such a small view of society. They think everyone is like themselves, we forget that there are so many different people with different likes, opinions, etc. You don't need to understand twitter or want to use it. The whole point of it's existence is choice. Some people understand it, find the need to use it, and love it. Love the fact they can talk to people all over the world about the same topics they love. I have talked to Alli who is in Alabama I think, if it weren't for twitter that probably would never have happend. Also there is no need for people to bare their souls but it is all up to the discretion of the user and the viewer. They share what they feel they are comfortable sharing. If you're following and you find it a waste of time then you can un-follow. So it's all about choice, I like it because it's an easy and quick way to reach a large audience, and the ability to share pictures or whatever.

So how you liking Twitterific so far? I think it has THE best looking interface on the market, but SimplyTweet has them all beat.

i'm really digging it! i think my problem with twitter the first time i tried it was i was using it on the computer, and that was a little bit confusing. but using the iphone app, or any app i guess for that matter is a different story. do they make apps for desktop? hmmmm, a new quest!

Best desktop client (on the pc side, at least) is TweetDeck. Tweeting from the web makes Twitter look boring and pointless.

I use Twitter for two things:
1) Short updates to friends on where I am or what I'm doing. It also feeds to my Facebook account via Tweetsync. This lets me keep in touch with friends and acquaintances.
2) Tracking my brewing times and events. I set my laptop up in the garage and send updates at each step. I can then check it on my PC and update my logs.

Give TweetDeck a whirl on your desktop. It's a standalone client. I tried a few plugin types when I first started tweeting (2 years ago?) like TwitterFox...I don't like keeping my browser up all the time. TweetDeck notifies you of what you want, when you want it. Being able to sort tweets by column is probably what lead to Twitter creating lists on the website.

I have "all tweets" in a column I rarely view. Instead I look at the columns labeled "kids," "local tweeps," and "nerd tweeps."

Also check out Blu for Vista and Windows 7. I love that one.

Also for the Mac, EventBox is the best one.

I've been meaning to, but haven't got around to it. I like it on the iPhone since it can only show one column on the screen at a time and then with a flick it goes to the next.
