I'm conflicted. I like a lot of Snyder's imagery, but some of the scenes they show are borderline baffling. Hopefully they better suit the character and the story when seen in context.

So... cautiously optimistic?

After seeing the second trailer a few weeks back I'm extremely excited to see this new revival of Superman. They seem to have captured the struggle between who he is (a super powered alien that could literally dominate the earth by himself) and who he was raised to be (a human being). The scene where he is being escorted reflects this and made me smile, it shows EXACTLY how this kind of scenario would play out, and how a being like Superman would most likely handle such situation (allowing them to restrain him so that they gain trust in him and know that he is there to help)...it also speaks towards our own paranoid approach to pretty much everything (which makes the line between Superman and human even more pronounced).

The old movies never really captured this properly...they were more focused on the star (Christopher Reeves) and the special effects of the time (which were mind blowing in that era). They could never really give you that struggle for superman because the stories, unfortunately, were pretty shallow. This looks much deeper...and why would anyone expect something other than that when Christopher Nolan is involved.

I'm so excited, i can hardly wait!

I think there are only two options with this movie - it will be either a knockout or a complete failure in both tone and execution. I am very curious to see how it ends up and whether Snyder can make this more than nice to look at. Visually it will be stunning - there is no doubt about that. What worries me is the quality of the screenplay and the characters and how they translate to the screen.

The Dark Knight Rises was a huge letdown for me, let's see if Nolan can do better as a producer here. The combination with Snyder as director is very intriguing. The question is, will this work? But I do love the tone and the camera work they are showing here. It has a certain atmosphere that will be very interesting to see if they can maintain through out the whole movie.

I don't know that i would call the dark knight rises a "letdown", but i think the problem it faced was that it followed the greatest batman film ever made, with arguably one of the most dynamic villain portrayals I've ever seen in this kind of movie...simply put, Heath Ledger's Joker set the bar so high that even the great film makers of the world would have a hard time one upping that. Dark Knight Rises picked a strange place to start (based on the graphic novel and how it paced out)...it almost started in the middle of a story, but i think they did a hell of a job capturing the human aspect of all the villains in the story, Nolan has a knack for that.

All that said, I think that Nolan will guide Snyder to make this another epic reboot...you can almost tell from the latest trailer that the film is going to touch on character elements you rarely see in "super hero" films, just like Nolan did with the dark knight, there's more development here, and not so much "candy" (for lack of better term). I think that is also why so many thought the dark knight rises to be the worst of the 3 films, it essentially stopped the development of the characters because it was the end, you didn't learn anything else about Bruce Wayne, and to me, that is what made the first two films epic.

The first Superman film should follow the development pattern, and i think it will be very successful doing so.

TDKR was such a mess, I'm actually amazed that Nolan was capable of producing something so inferior - to any of his films. It's his worst movie IMO and I believe repeated viewings will only accentuate that over time. The film has so many problems, plot holes, inconsistencies... Argh, I better not start with that, cause I only get frustrated thinking about it... :)

The problem that I see with Man of Steel is simple - Superman is not Batman. You can't apply the same techniques that you used to tell a Batman story to tell the one about Superman. They are cardinally different characters and you have to approach them that way. Take The Avengers for example - it's a completely different take than Nolan used for Batman. But in the context of the story they were telling it worked wonderfully. I do hope that they find the right angle for Superman. It all lies on the shoulders of Snyder. I think this will be a tipping point in his career - he has the chance to really prove himself here as a director. I really hope he succeeds. As Rene said, I'm cautiously optimistic. :)

But honestly, i don't think it is all that different, because half of the Superman character IS like Batman, albeit a bit more humble and "rural" i guess you could say. The "human" factor, which is what I'm getting out of this new film coming, the main complexity of the story revolving around his balance of all powerful being and having to reign it in to be more human. Nolan's Batman films told a very good story of a revenge, but where it shined (in my opinion) was Bruce Wayne's development into Batman, and i think they could easily do that as well with Superman, even easier in fact because he's already powerful, so the actual "development" would be regression to fit into the human world...

Time will tell obviously, but i think they have another great series here and can't wait to see it.

I was worried that 'The Amazing Spider-Man' would have killed the whole franchise period, but it ended up being pretty good.

Here's hoping Superman can comply, too!
