Yeah, seems like it! I got the update today too, the only thing that changed was the YT icon, now it's mostly white with the square red.

What is the advantage of using Google's dedicated YouTube app over the web page? I am just curious. Don't want to download, since I don't have an account.

You don't need an account to use YT either way. As for the advantages, well the idea of dedicated apps is to make the experience better and faster altogether, also they can work with the phone native features.

A simple example would be that if you watchh a video on the webapp, and then pause it in the middle to attend to something else when coming back to it you'll have to wait for the page to reload. This doesn't happen with the app, you pick up where you left off.

At the end of the day it is a matter of personal choice, download it and give it a try, you'll probably see/feel the difference right away, but if you don't, that's ok too.

I've found for years that videos just play better in the App. Smoother with fewer bugs. Publishing seems to work better as well.
