Worth the money?

I have a BB Curve right now with AT&T, but absolutely HATE the plasticy keys and how loud they click when I am in a quiet office. It not only bothers me, but I know it gets others around me bothered as well. Also, the BB software has grown old on me, and isn't exciting to use.

SOOOOOOO, I'm in the market for a new phone!

I like the iPhone a lot, but I'm worried about e-mailing and texting. Will I get used to it? I make a LOT of mistakes when I use it at the store.

Will they come out with a better model in a few months at the same price and will I regret buying it now? Or is the only thing I will be missing out on is 3G? I know someone with a iPod touch and the net is quick enough for me. Does that run on the same thing the iPhone does?

I am in construction, so when its in my pocket, I am also worried the screen will get scratched. How does the screen hold up if you put a protector on it?

Is it worth the $400 overall?

You will definitely get used to the keyboard. It takes about 2 weeks before you can type mostly mistake-free (this generally involves learning how to position your fingers, and learning to trust the auto-correct).

They will likely come out with better models every 6 months or so. This is the nature of the industry. The only question is how much better. The next update could possibly be 3G, more memory, etc. No one nows.

The ipod touch and iphone operate identically when using the web over wi-fi. Using the web over Edge is slower on iphone, but it will use wi-fi when wi-fi is available.

It's pretty hard to scratch the screen, but if you are in construction I'd definitely put a protector on.

I think the majority of people who own one find it worth the $400, but that's a personal decision that will vary based on your own circumstances. I now know a lot of folks who have switched from BB, and they all find that even though the iphone has fewer "features," they use their iphone far more than they ever used their BB because the features work better. If, however, you need certain features (like BB push email), iphone isn't for you.

getting email every 15 minutes isn't an issue. I would like it faster for some cases, but 15 isn't the end of the world.

3G is supposed to come "this year," My money is on November.

The screen is *very* scratch resistant. But I use a bodyguardz anyway just to be safe. Works fine with a protector on.

Refurbished iphones are now available in AT&T stores... $220 for 4 GB and $249 for 8GB.
I got an 8 GB four days ago and it looks like brand new... not one scratch!

Regarding the keyboard, I used Treos and BB (8310) in the past and after few days, I am already typing pretty fast and error free on it.
