I am on the fence, as I am a VZW customer, on buying an iPhone 3Gs, but with the January rumors I wonder if a new iPhone will be announced. My gut instinct says no. What do you say? Buy now or wait?

The word on the street at the moment is that it will be the unveiling of the long awaited iTablet or whatever they call it.

The following is posted on CNET's Apple Blog...

Latest Apple Computer News - CNET News

Could it be the new iPhone? 50/50....A "Bigger Screen" could mean the tablet or maybe a higher resolution of screen maybe??? The later would lead me to get my hopes up of iPhone OS 4.0, I wont be getting the 4G anyways until upgrade time....only had the 3GS for about 4 months

short answer. No.

They would not be smart to release one now. Why, upgrade time. Most carriers offer discounts after a year which tends to be the release cycle for the iPhone. They would gain alot of sales by keeping it until June/July. Also, the cycle seems to be on track. With those testing devices found on logs a few weeks ago the timeframe is in place. Around that time last year the 3GS was being tested, then it hit in summer. Same with the 3G. This will be no different.

I believe the itablet is next. Think about it. Apple loves to come in and revolutionize a new arena. They can do that with the tablet. I hate to say it, but I think most of the fun with the iPhone is over. Consider laptops and iPods. At first there was a worldwind of new features, programs, and usability upgrades. Then it turns into hardware upgrades and little bells and whistles for years until someone can rerevolutionize. What else can they add to the iPhone? A better screen, faster processor, new operating system, google navigation... They are out of the stuff that knocks your socks off, so it is time to revolutionize a new line, the tablet. Hopefully, I'm wrong about the iPhone and right about the tablet.

I doubt it. It's pretty early and I don't know of any retailers that are saying they are sold out of the 3GS either. I guess it would be good to just wait anyway.

I recently switched from Verizon to AT&T to get an iPhone and its the best thing I have ever done cell phone wise. I was using a BlackBerry Storm so its a definite device upgrade and I am saving a good amount of money too. If you wait to get the new iPhone 4.0 you will just be sitting in the same boat as you are now cause they will just release an even newer one a year later. So why wait and keep yourself from such a great device, you can always upgrade.

The wave of iPhone popularity isn't over....whoever thinks that should read a little more. I think that the next generation iPhone is gonna knock our socks off. Maybe a very positive thought and very hopeful, but with the way things have been going in the smartphone industry..... its like this....Apple has to **** or get off the toilet.

I'm betting the next generation iPhone is tied in very heavily to what will be done with the new "tablet" that is starting to have leaks come out over.

No new phone in Jan. IMO

I say wait until summer. Um guessing the 3gs will take the 3g place as the lower end model. And the new one will be out so you can pick between the two. Also maybe the iPhone will come to verizon.

The iPhone's popularity is not decreasing, it's that there is more interest in other platforms because they are improving.

I don't think the new iPhone will be out in January. The logs are a peice of edvidence that apple is testing 4.0 but there is no edvidence that it's used on a new hardware.

The tablet is probably going to be out in January. I think they'll release some update concurrently but I'm almost sure it will not be 4.0. I say this only because the patern is not consistent with past update paterns.

The only thing I see happening in January is a iTablet release and a 3.2 update. 4.0 preview will be saved until March
