why would an iphone 6 send duplicate texts to android?

everytime my boyfriend sends me a text from his iPhone to my android it duplicates a few seconds later, why?

It may be an issue with your carrier. I had the same issue with my iPhone X. It was sending my messages to an android phone 3 times. I had to hit the ##update # to correct the problem within the network and that fixed it.
