Why when I double tap are my Air Pods going to music?

I have just purchased my second set of Air Pods because I lost my first set. They have paired successfully but when I double tap to make a phone call from my contacts it goes instantly into playing music from my music library. If I double tap again it plays the next track. If I press the menu button on the phone it asks 'what can I help with' as normal and then I can request a call to one of my contacts but it requires me to get my phone out of my pocket to make a call. How do I rectify this ?
