Why was the Always on Display feature not on when I woke up?

Just slept with it last night next to me on the counter. When I woke up the display was off.

Normally I like always on displays because I can peak over and see what time it is without touching the device.

I looked In the settings and I only see an option to turn ON or OFF the always on display.

Am I missing something?

I'm not using Always-On on my iPhone 14 Pro Max just because of battery life issues.

Thx for the article. My battery life on say 3 seems decent. When I went to bed last night it was at 57%. It was a work day.
Am off today. So will see what a day off use looks like

Honestly don’t really like the AOD display. However I like that if you use the Apple Remote and switch off the phone, the Apple Remote becomes the aod screen.

Seems they included some smart parameters for AOD turning off, but there needs to be a brightness adjustment as well. My phone is in a Vaja wallet case so I bet AOD would never be on.

I kind of like the always in display. Well just got my 14 pro max and only had it for a day. Use it last night and mine was still on. Hmm maybe it can be a software issue?

14 pro max is still in beta so there are quite a few bugs. Maybe it's the software's fault.

Would be nice if they had setting if charging stay on.
