Why is Wi-Fi a bit sketchy with my iPhone 6 and my Wi-Fi network?

My connection quality on my home wifi is quite sketchy on my iPhone only. There's quite a lag when pulling up simple apps like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram...etc. it's takes forever for those apps to update with the latest info. I can switch off wifi and go to data and apps update immediately, yet my kid can be gaming online on wifi on Xbox with no problem. It's a real head scratcher. I've done the obvious like reset my modem and reset the network settings on my phone but to no avail 😕

If you have a dual band router, connect the iPhone 6 to the 5 GHz frequency.

Thanks guys I'll try those steps. Currently on AT&T home wifi and I believe the device is a single band.
