Why is there a grey line covering the messages I am typing?

it's not the microphone waiting for you to speak, nor will closing out the apps help. I actually even did a factory reset on my phone and it came back 20 minutes later. Turn on or off character count and it helps for a bit. Hopefully they push out another update to fix it.

i had the same problem after upgrading to 9.1. idid a restore from iTunes and that fixed it.
character count was on both before and after the restore.

It's the audio text feature. It's activicated by pressing the mic on the right side. Try swiping the messages app out of multitasking. Or try tapping the mic.

Just as suggested by others...i went to character count...turned it on, the grey line went away, then i turned count off, and the grey line did not come back.
Hope this helps/

Go to Settings, then General, then Restrictions, then Enable Restrictions, then enter your passcode twice, then turn Siri off (in Allow section). This will get rid of the line.
