Why is my phone saying that I have 2.4gb of email even after I've cleared it out?

Storage amount seems wrong (7.1.2)

Im stuck/confused... my wife filled up her phone. Most of it is pictures (5.0gb) - but the phone says mail - 2.4gb! So, I went through and delete 687 emails and emptied trash... it still says 2.4gb?? There are still some in the inbox, but no way 2.4gb worth. I have restarted the phone as well.

If I do a backup/restore...will the emails in the inbox still be there (she would kill me if they were gone!)

Crazy question but did you also delete the sent mail?

lol thats where most of the 680 emails where (going back to 2012!!).. with tons of attachments too - so I know the number should have gone down. a lot... so, the inbox is the only folder with any emails in it

hmm.... what about the Restore question.. If I restore it, will the emails stay?

It might be easier to try removing the mail account and then adding it back (for the stock mail app).
