Why is my original iPad going through the activation process?

Today I charged my original iPad 9.7 inch screen. This is the first iPad model ever manufactured.

Anyway for some reason the iPad reads activation needed. This never happened before because I activated this iPad many years ago.

I forced a restart which did not help.

Never used a SIM card with this iPad always used WIFI.

Here are the two screens that I see.

Have a try using iTunes (Windows) or Finder (macOS).

It is possible that the iPad can’t talk to the activation servers anymore because of compatibility issues.

Original Ipad activation.

iTunes the small icon that shows the iPad is greyed out. My other original iPad is fine.

Now Imazing sees the iPad but needs the iPad to be activated to work.

I searched for this all I see is iCloud lock activation.

This iPad does not have that. Too old.

You should still be able to select it. It's been over 5 years since I last connected an Apple device to iTunes though…

Re: Original Ipad activation.

That is what I thought. A person at Apple had my put the iPad recovery mode. Not I am reinstalling the 5.1.1 OS. Right now the progress bar refs repair is the baseband. Been doing this for a while now.

If that doesn’t work I will hook the iPad to my Widows XP computer. There is a older version of iTunes which might work.

Re: Original Ipad activation.

Kudos to you for trying to get the OG iPad up and running, you have a bit of a hill to climb. I'd categorize OG iPad as 'if you power it up and it takes you to Home Screen? You're in business (though I wouldn't connect it to the public Internet - just IMHO). If it doesn't take you to the Home Page - instead gives you activation and/or the connect to itunes alert (restore), oh man that could be an investment of time for uncertain results. You'll need a computer running iTunes version 12.6.3 (I think?) or older (you mentioned an XP machine, good start), the 30 pin connector, patience, a drink. Best of luck...

Original Ipad activation.

My windows 10 computer has version 12.12.3.5 and My Windows XP computer has 12.1.3.6.

Hooked up to XP computer. Hopefully that will work.

I could get me a 1st generation iPad on eBay for like 40 dollars. But, that is my last resort.

Re: Original Ipad activation.

I had the original iPad and the screen seemed larger than 9.7 inches.

I looked up the error reason. I saw this.

‘’Many users restore their iPhone in order to fix some software problems, and it usually works really well. But sometime they may notice that an error 1 appears and they cannot finish the restoring, this is one of the common iTunes errors. iTunes restore error 1 is an error indicates that there is an issue with the hardware itself. ‘’

I will see if I can transfer the programmes that I want onto another iPad.

Could not find a way to repair the iPad. So I am using one of my other iPads in its place.
