Why is my iPhone 5 not switching on in recovery mode?

why is iphone 5 not switching on in recovery mode.??/

my iphone 5 was dead this morning ..it shows the apple logo and switches off again...
i tried the recovery mode and the software was downloaded.....and it shows.. "waiting for iphone..." and then it shows the iphone could not be restored......can u plz help me with this.......

leave it to charge for a couple hours before messing with it.
