Why is my iphone’s battery icon flashing on & off ?

*SOLVED* I tried plugging in my iphone xs max to charge but a message popped up saying “unlock iphone to use accessories” even though I plugged it in to the wall not usb, I was even using the original cable & plug. Does anyone know what it could be ? I haven’t updated the phone since I got it so maybe it can be that ? ( thank you

Make sure there is no dirt or lint in the charging port of the iPhone first.
