Why is my Apple ID disabled?

A disabled account usually means there have been too many unsuccessful login attempts, or the account has not been used in a long time.

You will have to contact Apple directly here:

https://support.apple.com/apple-id

And yes, you will have to prove you are the account holder.

Once you unlock your account I highly recommend turning on two-factor authentication.

Exactly this! It's a nuisance, but in the end, Apple does a great job in protecting it's users. Please keep us posted on how you do and welcome to iMore!
