Why is my 5c waking up by itself?

I've had this 5c for 1.5 years.
Over the past month, it frequently lights up by itself all day.
The lock screen comes up with no messages or notices.
This drains the battery.

iPhone 5c
on T-Mobile
iOS 9.3.2 (13F69)

Check your notification settings. Do a hard reset.
Hold the top or side power/sleep button and the home button at the same time until the Apple logo appears, then release.

If it still does it, you may want to restore it as new. Not from a back up.
