Why iCloud backup contacts disappear after signing into gmail accounts?

I just got my new 6s, and when I restore from iCloud all my contacts are populated, but as soon as I sign in to verify all my email accounts the contacts from the iCloud restore are gone. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Not sure. Maybe make sure that the contacts toggles for the email addresses is off?

Go into the Contacts.app and tap on "Groups" on the top left corner.

Recon1- I tried that but they still didn't appear.

BreakingKayfabe- I did that but they also still disappeared. It's like the gmail contact sync is taking it over instead of merging.

Any other suggestions?

Make sure contacts are toggled on in iCloud and in Gmail. Go to mail,Contacts and Calendar >email account >Toggle on contacts.

That's the thing they are already turned on, and when I re-enter the password for the accounts they disappear. Should I try and delete the emails and re-add them?
