Why have I lost predictive text box on messages with 8.1 upgrade?

One of the features I liked about the OS8 upgrade was the predictive text box which showed on the screen when typing emails or messages. Since upgrading to 8.1 this feature has disappeared! So annoying. Is there anyway to get this back?

Mine did the same.

Push up on the little white line on the gray bar above the keyboard to expand the display. That should restore all functionality.

The line you speak of isn't there when Predictive on toggled off. 8.1 turned my off. 8.1 also turned off Safari's Open Links in New Tabs. I had to switch between that and In Background several times before it took effect.
