Why don't I get a notification sound from an iMessage user?

Just wondering if anybody knew why I get no notification sound from an iMessage user when receiving a text

I don't know. Is notifications set properly in the settings? Is there an alert tone set for messages?

Yes I get alerts from other regular message users just not from a user on i Message

Go to the contact in your Contacts.app and check if he or she's text tone is set to the tone you desire.

Not sure I understand. You get alerts for SMS messages ok but not iMessage? Or is it just one person you don't get the alert for?

Check to be sure their text tone is not set to "None". Go to the Contact > Tap edit > Tap alert tone > set an alert.

Well the reason is that you have do not disturb on so what you have to do is click on that text bar then click info the click info again then click on the do not disturb button and the wa la
