Why does my iPad4 show 4600 emails are in my inbox when it is empty?

Why does my iPad4 show 4600 emails are in my inbox when the inbox it is empty? It just doesn't make any sense to me.

Have you looked at the folders other than the Inbox? You know, like Junk, Trash, Sent, etc.
