why does iPhone message show location

When I try to send a message on iPhone XR, it shows a location map. How do I disable this?

Now, to get to your question!

If you want to check to see that you are actually sharing your location with an individual, try this:

Open iMessage and select the message that you wish to stop sharing your location with.

Tap the bar at the top, near the person's photo or initials, and another menu will open. Tap on the information icon near the top of the screen under the battery level. It's a blue circle with an "i" in the middle of it.

A Details Window will open. If you are currently sharing your location with this individual, you will see an option to "stop sharing my location". If you do see this, tap it to toggle off.
