Why does iMessage say 'couldn't load conversations?'

Battery was drained and after recharging could not load I messege. Rebooted checked settings.

Who knows? If the battery drained while the device was in the middle of retrieving the iMessage, it couldn't corrupted something, but I'm only guessing. Have that same person send you a test message or something.
