Why do some songs stop midway on my Nano Gen 3?

I have an Ipod Nano Gen 3 (I know, it's an antique, but I like it). In the last couple of weeks I've noticed that some of the songs in my playlist stop about midway through. This has never happened before. I did a reset and that didn't work. Is there a solution to this or do I need to bite the fiscal bullet and buy a new device?
