Why do some phone calls to my iPhone ring on my iPad

Just updated my 5c to iOS 8 and 9. Why are phone calls ringing on both devices? What happens if I try to answer the iPad? Will that use data?
Can I stop the calls from ringing on the iPad?

That is a new "feature" described in Connect your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch using Continuity

You can turn it off by going to Settings > FaceTime and changing "iPhone Cellular Calls" to off.

Turning off iPhone cellular calls in Settings > FaceTime only affects FaceTime calls. OP will want to do the following:
1. Open Settings > Phone

2. Tap on "calls on other devices"

3. Toggle "allow calls on other devices" OFF or selectively toggle specific devices OFF.

It at all we receive a call on other nearby device can we talk on that. As I tried answering but iPad says "failed". And also checked that we can initiate a call form iPad via iPhone.

both of my iphones ring and get texts at the same time. both are on ios 9.2. i don't see those options to disable calls on other devices. any solutions?
