Why do only Apple headphones only work on my ipad mini?

I don't know. I've attached my Apple EarPods, my Bose IE2's, a pair of Nakamichi headphones and a pair of Beats by Dr? headphones to my iPad Mini and they all worked.

All types SHOULD work. Take it to an Apple store to have it looked at

My daughter has the same problem. Her skull candy air buds work great on her iPhone 5s but her sony earbuds don't. She hates her skull candy earbuds because sound quality is subpar, but I'm afraid to by a different brands and waste the time and money. She can't stand the Apple EarPods.
